Our tip: PSV Eindhoven – Dortmund: 02

Peter Bosz only lasted half a year on the Dortmund bench in 2017 before BVB officials sacked him. At that time, his bond was broken by, among other things, a failed performance in the Champions League group stage, where Borussia did not win any of the six matches under his tutelage. It’s a different story at PSV, where he joined last July, and statistically it’s his most successful coaching stint.
In Eindhoven he has coached 35 games so far with an impressive 27-6-2 record and a 96:27 record! After PSV finished second in the Dutch Eredivisie three times in a row, he has equalled his best start to a season with 17 wins and has a ten-point cushion over second-placed Feyenoord. The team also made it through the Champions League group stage, entering it with a four-goal lead at Arsenal. They took four points each from their matches against Sevilla and Lens, which was enough to qualify for the eighth round, in which PSV are also confident.
There is also progressive optimism in Dortmund, who won the group of death, leaving PSG, Newcastle and AC Milan behind. Like PSV, it lost its first game on the ground of the Parisian favourite, but then scored in all its games and won three of them. Anyway, BVB is not as comfortable as PSV. After Borussia easily beat Freiburg 3-0 after returning several mainstays to the line-up, they played 1-1 in Wolfsburg and drew for the second time in the last three Bundesliga rounds. Its lead in the last Champions League qualification place over Leipzig has shrunk to one point.
BVB are still not complete though, Sebastien Haller returned from the African Cup of Nations as Ivory Coast’s national hero, only also injured. Also missing will be Donyell Malen, who shot his engagement in Dortmund three years ago just at PSV. Jadon Sancho, who fell out with Manchester United and went on a six-month loan without an option back to Borussia in January, will get a chance in attack. He is still searching in vain for his former form in his new place, having registered a single assist in five starts.
What to bet on:
Both teams are betting on offense, while PSV is able to put even stronger opponents in their stadium. But Dortmund have shown extreme resilience in the group, winning in Milan and Newcastle, and will not lose in Eindhoven either.
Confidence:
7/10
