A 1-0 win at Fulham brought Newcastle closer to sixth place on a difference of just two points, and three wins in their previous five appearances give them hope of a successful end to the season. However, Tottenham also celebrated a win last time out, beating Nottingham 3-1 to move into the top four.

Participation in any European Cup will be considered an achievement for Newcastle.
