After a great start to the Karjala Cup and a win over Sweden, the Czech hockey team has hit a rough patch. In Saturday’s game against home Finland, they had a significant shooting advantage, but their gunpowder got completely wet on the way back from Karlovy Vary. They couldn’t score even one goal from 34 shots when Emil Larmi was on the crease, and on the other hand they scored four times.

After a 0:4 defeat to the Finns, they will not sleep easily. The tough defeat came after a very good performance against the Swedes, something Radim Rulík’s team wanted to build on. However, it didn’t work and on Sunday, shortly after lunch, the Czech team will face a very tough Switzerland.

Although the Swiss were rather a bore last season on the Euro Hockey Tour, the silver team from the last world championship started the new season in a great way. First they got a point from the game against Finland, which they lost 2:3 after overtime, and then on Saturday afternoon Patrick Fischer’s team beat Sweden 4:3 after a shootout after another very good performance. The latter was considered to be the clear paper favourite.

What to bet on:

The Swiss are flexing their claws at this year’s Karjala Cup and are showing that beating them won’t be easy. At least for the first tournament of the season they have put together a very good line-up and the Czech team will have a tough task on Sunday. And it won’t be a successful one, at least not in normal time, because Switzerland won’t lose.
