Dutch clubs are doing well in the knockout phase of the cups. PSV and Feyenoord advanced in the Champions League this week, while Ajax also played well in the Europa League, taking a luxury 2-0 lead from the Belgian soil of Saint Gillois.

Ajax won only their second cup playoff game out of the last eleven, a victory sealed by 16-year-old talent Jorthy Mokio, who became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer on the European stage. De Godenzonen have confirmed their excellent form across all competitions, winning five games in a row, scoring at least twice in each and keeping a clean sheet in the last three. The team’s current well-being is completed by the first place in the Dutch league.

Saint Gilloise, on the other hand, is losing ground. Last week, it also lost its home Jupiler Pro League match against Mechelen 0:1 and its gap from third place to leader Genk has already grown to 14 points. Union did win at Twente in the league phase in the autumn, but that is also its only win in its last seven Europa League away games (1-1-5).
