Manchester City recorded an important 2-0 win at Everton in the Champions League battle at the weekend, coming within one point of Newcastle, but more importantly, defending their position ahead of relegated Aston Villa. The latter blasted Newcastle at home and, with their fifth win in a row, made the battle of the top six teams for the five Champions League places very dramatic.

Manchester City have won 10 of their 16 league games at home (10-3-3), but ahead of this clash, the fact that they have done well against their other Champions League rivals is also important. City have beaten Newcastle (4-0), Nottingham (3-0) and Chelsea (3-1) at home and of the top seven teams here, only leaders Liverpool were not enough. But the spectators are mostly in for a treat: in 12 of City’s 16 home games so far, at least three goals have been scored.

Aston Villa mostly takes all or nothing away (7-2-7), as evidenced by its only two away draws this season. The visitors have won four of their last five away games in all competitions, the only exception being a loss in Paris in the Champions League quarter-finals. Aston Villa’s last three trips to England have all ended 3-0 (Southampton, Brighton, Preston). But it’s different at this stadium – the Villans have lost nine times in a row!

Apart from the fact that in 12 of Manchester City’s 16 home games at least three goals have been scored, the exact same was true in Aston Villa’s away games. In both cases, that’s a 75% success rate on the Over 2.5 bet, with three goals also falling in the first meeting between the two sides, which Aston Villa won 2-1.
