Jakub Menšík is having a great season, so much so that he could easily make a run at the final Tournament of Champions. He still has a long way to go, but as the still fresh Masters champion in Miami, he has some very interesting prospects ahead of him. But to prove it, he needs to pick up wins against weaker players on paper.

After a fortnight off, he returned to the Munich circuit last week, where he opened the clay part of the season, but fell to Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann in three sets. It could have been considered a surprise, but the fact remains that Hanfmann is good at Mencius and has beaten him three times out of four duels. Entering Madrid, where the Czech tennis player is the 22nd seed, will be a different story.

On the other side of the court will be American Ethan Quinn. The twenty-one year old, who is ranked number two in the world, has been considered a concrete player, but this year he is proving that he can do it on clay as well. After all, now in Madrid he passed the qualification and defeated Dusan Lajovic in the first round. A week ago in Barcelona, he also qualified and had a bit of trouble in the first round against Carlos Alcaraz. However, he was not quite himself in Barcelona and after the tournament he admitted to an injury that caused him to miss Madrid.

What to bet on:

Jakub Menšík has already made his clay court debut this year and he will definitely be more experienced than in Munich. Quinn, who hasn’t played much among the elite so far, will threaten him, but will ultimately lose. And Mensik will manage to beat his opponent on handicap.
