Cagliari, fighting for salvation, lost 0:1 in Monza before the national break, but managed to keep their distance from the relegation zone thanks to the hesitation of others. Verona are also two points ahead of the relegation zone, having last lost 1:3 at home to AC Milan.

Cagliari return home, where they beat Salernitana 4-2 in their last appearance, winning their fifth of their previous 10 home encounters (5-3-2). The Sardinians’ performance at home on the island will be what decides their eventual salvation, with the clash with Verona being one of the key ones. And Cagliari have done very well at home against their other survival rivals, beating Salernitana, Sassuolo and Frosinone and drawing with Udinese and Empoli.

Verona came out on top last time out, beating Lecce 1-0, but otherwise they are not among the home team’s bogeymen – they have won just nine points on their away trips this season (2-3-10). Before the Lecce win, then, the visitors had lost five of their six away games (0-1-5) and had not scored in three of them.

Cagliari experienced an interesting turnaround at the end of February, when the team pulled itself together and started to produce unexpectedly good results. Moreover, the national team’s break will help with a heavily loaded squad (especially with offensive players), and the Rossoblu will confirm their domestic specialisation.
