Chelsea lost 1-2 at Aston Villa last round and dropped out of the cup positions after the third defeat in the last four league games. Southampton went back to their old ways after a surprise win at Ipswich, losing twice in a row, most recently 0-4 to Brighton.

The Blues went into crisis at the end of January, losing four of their last five competitive games, halting their campaign for the top four. Moreover, in the previous seven appearances they have scored at least once each time and the fact that their defence is not in form is also indicated by the fact that they have kept their only clean sheet at Stamford Bridge in their last 13 appearances. This could change now that Chelsea have won 11 of their last 14 league games against teams from the last place in the table.

The visitors still haven’t (after 26 rounds) reached double digits in points (9) and there are probably few doubts about their relegation. Although they surprisingly won at Ipswich in their last away game, they won twice in a row on the road in the PL, the last time they won in 2020. Seven goals conceded in two league games since then suggests it was really just a fluke.

What to bet on:

The first meeting of the season saw Chelsea win 5-1, which could easily be repeated. Southampton have scored at least three goals in five of their last six league games and have conceded 61 goals overall this season. Chelsea, moreover, can shoot at home and have scored 60 goals in their last 25 PL appearances here, failing to score just once.
