A 1-3 defeat at Manchester City meant Chelsea dropped to sixth place, having won only one of their last seven league games. West Ham also failed to win, taking a point from Aston Villa (1:1), but this did not change their 14th position (27 points).

Chelsea’s recent dip in form is also interesting in the sense that they have managed to score first in five of their six league games since Christmas, but have won only one of those five times (1-2-2). On home soil, the Blues have won only one of their last three league games (1-1-1), which has slightly spoiled their solid home record (5-4-2). The three losses in the last six league fixtures are even the same number of defeats for Chelsea as in the previous 32 PL duels combined!

West Ham have not been helped significantly so far by the arrival of new coach Graham Potter. Of the four competitive matches under his guidance, they have won only once (1-1-2) and conceded exactly two goals three times. For Potter, this will be his first return to Stamford Bridge since being sacked in April 2023, but former Chelsea managers have not usually fared well against the Blues subsequently: the last eight such coaches here have failed to win in a combined 22 league games (0-8-14).

What to bet on:

The arrival of West Ham represents a chance for Chelsea to rectify recent results. It has been beaten 8-0 on aggregate in the last two meetings between the two sides, and as the visitors are still searching, the home side can register a third league win in a row for the first time since 2011. Moreover, the visitors have gotten 16 goals in their last six games, so the Blues can shoot at it.
