Colorado got on a winning streak last week. They beat New Jersey 5-1, then Minnesota 5-2, and most recently this week 4-1 in Pittsburgh. The team’s defense worked in those games, backed by good goaltending, but most importantly the offense was clicking, which was definitely not the case in the first few games after the Four Nations tournament. The Avalanche are tied with Edmonton for sixth place in the Western Conference and are also eyeing the fourth position held by Minnesota.

San Jose is a team with one of the worst defenses, having already given up 234 goals in 63 games. The team has undergone significant turnover in recent days, with goalie Vitek Vanek leaving and more departures expected before Saturday night. Despite that, the Sharks have managed to win two in a row. But that’s just a small patch on an otherwise bad season, as San Jose is the worst team in the entire league, even the miserable Chicago is three points ahead of them.
