As Denmark prepares for the Euros, Sweden will miss out for the first time since 1996.

The Danes won their group and have high ambitions again after reaching the semi-finals at the last European Championships. Preparatory matches are important for the Danes, they don’t underestimate any of them and especially not at home, where they last lost to France in a friendly nine long years ago. What is admirable is their streak of 11 home preliminary matches without a goal scored, dating back to 2017. Kasper Hjulmand has already nominated all 26 players, with veterans Simon Kjaer, Christian Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and the up-and-coming generation with Manchester United canon Rasmus Hojlund.

Sweden will primarily test the national team’s jersey adepts in Copenhagen after a botched qualification (10 points). Fifteen players with less than ten starts for the national team, including three newcomers, are on the roster for the preliminary matches against Denmark and Serbia. But missing is Sporting Lisbon phantom Viktor Gyökeres. It will be a spicy match for Jon Dahl Tomasson, the Danish national team’s all-time top scorer is also the first ever foreigner on the bench of the Swedish national team. Tomasson started with a 2-5 debacle in Portugal, then the Blues narrowly beat Albania 1-0 at home.

What to bet on:

There is a rich history between the two sides, with Wednesday’s match being the 108th and Denmark, who won the last (preliminary) meeting between the Nordic rivals in 2020 2-0 at home, having the upper hand.
