The WTA 125 tournament, which is the equivalent of the men’s Challengers, in Charleston, USA, will feature a match between thirty-six-year-old Sara Errani of Italy and seven years younger than China’s Ya-fan Wang in the semi-finals. The latter is the favourite.

Errani is still trying to fight the ravages of time and with more or less success she is still holding around the 100th position in the world rankings. Although she has had a few bad luck. This season, however, she is not doing too well. She has already finished in the qualifiers at most tournaments and only in Cluj did she manage to win a match on the highest circuit in the main event. Eventually there were two and she made it through to the quarterfinals, where she received a caning from Karolina Pliskova.

In contrast, Ja-fan Wang has made it to the third round of the Australian Open, which was a big surprise, just as she was far from expected to make it to the semifinals at the WTA tournament in Hua Hin. She then made it through to the quarterfinals at another WTA event in Austin in early March.

What to bet on:

If we go purely by the stats, then China’s Wang is the clear favourite. She has managed to pick up a number of wins on the top circuit, while Errani has overwhelmingly finished in the qualifiers or first rounds. As she gets older, some of her quality leaves the game, which will be evident in her clash with Wang.
