The Tournament of Champions in Turin culminates with the final day. The last two matches are on the schedule. The first will decide the doubles champions. Germany’s Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz and the Salvadoran-Croatian duo of Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavic will face each other.

Arevalo, 34, and Pavic, three years younger, are identical world doubles leaders. They have won four tournaments together this year. Their biggest title came at the Grand Slam at Roland Garros. They also triumphed at the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati and smaller tournaments in Hong Kong and Geneva. Before the Tournament of Champions, they were on a four-match losing streak, and also did not start well in Turin, losing 3:6 and 4:6 to the Germans Krawietz and Pütz. However, they subsequently defeated Bopanna and Ebden (7:5, 6:3) and Bolelli and Vavassori (6:3, 3:6, 10:3) to finally advance from second place in the group. In the semifinals, they defeated Heliövaaru and Patten twice 7:6.

Thirty-two-year-old Krawietz is the 15th doubles player in the world rankings. His compatriot Pütz, four years older than him, is just behind him in the rankings at number sixteen. They have played four finals this year, including one at the US Open. Only their participation at home in Hamburg translated into a title. They were the last pair to qualify for Turin, but still managed to win the group. The experienced Germans defeated Arevalo and Pavic (6:3, 6:4) and Bolelli and Vavassori (7:5, 6:4). Finally, they fell in three sets to Bopanna and Ebden (5:7, 7:6, 7:10). In the semi-finals, they turned around a dramatic duel with Purcell and Thompson (2:6, 6:3, 11:9).

What to bet on:

The two teams will play each other for the seventh time this season. Krawietz and Pütz have the better record, leading 4:2. Arevalo and Pavic, who have been picking up one defeat after another in recent weeks, already managed a relatively smooth defeat in Turin earlier this week. There’s no reason why they can’t do it again – especially when the Germans are listed as odds-on outsiders.
