Veronika Kudermetova has been struggling in recent months and won her first match since the end of June in the opening round in Guadalajara after four straight defeats. The American Sachia Vickery, who is ranked as high as second in the world, was not an adequate opponent and the 27-year-old Kudermetova won twice 6-4.

However, a much tougher opponent lurks in the eighth round of the Mexican tournament. That is the twenty-two-year-old Colombian beauty Camila Osorio, currently ranked 80th in the rankings.
