Petra Kvitova returned to the professional circuit last week. She lost her first-round match to Britain’s Jodie Anna Burrage 6:3, 4:6, 4:6 at the tournament in Austin, Texas. Burrageová, who is a member of the second 100 in the world, did not show a good performance, but it was enough for the Czech tennis player. It was quite obvious that Kvitova lacks playing practice.

Kvitova has also received a wild card for the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells and this time she will face a slightly tougher opponent in Varvara Gracheva. This Russian, who decided to change her citizenship and represents France, is definitely not in ideal form so far this season. However, in Austin she managed to defeat the favoured Peyton Stearns in the first round and advanced to the eighth round, where she gave Caroline Dolehide a tough time.

Kvitova has played Grachev once before, in 2023 in Miami, where she eventually won the title. She beat the Frenchwoman 7:5, 7:6.

Kvitova didn’t put in a world-class performance in her first match back. But she held her own against Burrage, who wasn’t playing her best. Since Gracheva is also not in ideal form, she could play a higher number of games this time. The Frenchwoman will win and at least 20 games will be played.
