Linda Fruhvirt will play for her first quarterfinal of the season at the clay tournament in San Luis Potosí. Her opponent will be Suzan Lamens from the Netherlands.

From this point of view, her upcoming encounter might not be that difficult. Lamens is ranked 156th in the rankings at the age of 24 and has never been higher. Her wins so far this year have come on the lower ITF circuit, where she has faced opponents of a completely different performance level. Her last appearance was at the indoor event in Ricany, where she lost to 17-year-old Czech Tereza Valenta in the first round. In San Luis, the draw awarded her the home qualifier Hinojosa Gómez, ranked eighth in the rankings, whom she defeated 6:4, 6:3.

What to bet on:

It’s been exactly two years since Fruhvirt, at just 16 years old, defeated Belarus’ Azarenka and Belgium’s Mertens in Miami. She has it in hand, no doubt, but she desperately needs to find her lost composure. And she might just be able to do that this week at a qualitatively weaker event in Mexico. If she wants to get back into the top 100, she simply has to beat ITF quality opponents.
