The mood is different in the Leverkusen and Wolfsburg camps. If coach Xabi Alonso’s charges are sovereignly ruling the German top flight, the “Wolves” have dropped to the second half of the table.

Leverkusen were still 0-2 down with half an hour to go in Thursday’s Europa League opening eight-final at Karabakh, but eventually equalised at the very end to extend their unbeaten run to 35 games this season (30-5-0) and enter this round with a ten-point lead over second-placed Bayern. The Pharmacists return to their home ground, where they are the only team in the competition not to have lost (10-2-0).

Wolfsburg lost to Stuttgart last week (2-3) and extended their winless streak to nine games (0-6-3), resulting in a drop deep into the second half of the table, from where they had a 12-point deficit to the cup standings before the weekend. The “Wolves” can thus move more towards the middle of the table, while they travel to the competition leader’s ground knowing that they have only lost twice away in the league (2-3-7).

What to bet on:

But Bayer hasn’t won their last seven home games (0-3-4), so they hope it’s time to end the losing streak. Leverkusen have been picking up close wins lately and another one could follow on Sunday, at the very least I believe they will extend their unbeaten run in the current campaign.
