Alexander Bublik, a bit of a controversial figure on the men’s circuit, is set to make his debut on grass this Wednesday. At the ATP tournament in Stuttgart, he will take on 20-year-old Hamad Medjedovic, who doesn’t have nearly as much experience with the surface as the Kazakh rebel.

World number 17 Bublik is quite fond of grass tournaments. Although he doesn’t play on grass nearly as much as on other surfaces, over the course of his career, if one averages the amount of time that tournaments are held on each surface, he has played substantially more matches on grass than on the much more widely used clay. And last year, he also captured his biggest career title at the prestigious Halle tournament.

Bublik, whose hard serve, among other things, will be the favourite against Hamad Medjedovic. This is despite the fact that Medjedovic has already made his debut on grass this year and managed to take on Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan. However, the world No.2 beat an opponent in the first round who was playing only his third career tournament on grass, so this victory cannot be considered as a significant achievement, even though he is a Top 50 player on paper.

What to bet on:

Alexander Bublik will go into his match against Hamad Medjedovic undefeated, but from the position of a player who loves grass tournaments and can play them well. The champion from Halle will be able to handle the young Serbian and advance to the quarterfinals.
