Jakub Mensik had a great rehearsal for Paris, which he completed on clay in Umag, Croatia. The 18-year-old Czech youngster made it all the way to the semi-finals, having not lost a set in three matches and was stopped only by the 17th player in the world, Lorenzo Musetti. Menšík also confirmed that he can play well on clay, although he is mainly a service player thanks to his cooperation with Tomas Berdych.

In Paris, he will face Alexander Shevchenko of Kazakhstan in the opening round, whom he managed to beat in three sets on clay last year. Shevchenko has struggled in clay tournaments this year, winning only six matches out of seventeen. And overall, the 58th ranked player in the world is having a miserable season with a 16/26 record.
