The 1-2 defeat to Chelsea was Newcastle’s second league loss in a row, something they haven’t done this season (3-3-3). Arsenal didn’t celebrate the win either, drawing at home with Liverpool (2-2), but that can be considered a success given their absences.

Newcastle, however, have not won in five league games in a row and enter this round from a disappointing 12th position. The Magpies improved their mood in midweek when they beat Chelsea 2-0 in the League Cup, not only avenging the weekend’s league defeat, but more importantly, finally scoring more than one goal after six competitive appearances.

The home side will be looking to repeat last year’s success when they beat Arsenal 1-0 here, but the latter have not lost two league games in a row at this stadium since the mid-90s. The visitors also put their spirits right in the week when they beat Preston 3-0 in the cup and Bukayo Saka came on for the second game in a row, leaving no doubt about his health.

What to bet on:

The home team can surprise and they definitely have at least a point to gain. Arsenal are not having an ideal season, as evidenced by their only win in their last four away games (1-2-1), but also by the fact that they have conceded nine goals in their last five league games – more than in the previous 19 combined.
