The final women’s 1000 of this year’s tennis season will culminate in Wuhan, China on Sunday. Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and home team Qin Wen Cheng will clash.

Twenty-two-year-old Cheng is ranked seventh in the rankings. This year she won the clay event in Palermo and especially the Olympics in Paris. Earlier this year, she played the final of the Australian Open, in which she lost to her upcoming opponent. In Wuhan, she is the first ever home finalist in the tournament’s history. She turned around a duel with Canada’s Fernandez in the eighth round and also had to go to three sets in the quarterfinals against Italy’s Paolini. Most recently, she defeated her compatriot Xinyu Wang from the position of a huge favourite, the biggest semi-final of her career.

Sabalenka will be the favourite. The Minsk native is the second player in the rankings and is fighting to finish the season at the top. The environment in Wuhan suits her immensely. The two-time tournament champion has yet to lose a match in this infamous city and boasts a 16-0 record. This week, she turned around a three-set eight-setter against Kazakhstan’s Putintseva and a semi-final against American Gauff. Sandwiched in between those matches was a smooth win over Poland’s Frech.

What to bet on:

The Belarusian slugger is on her way to completing a hat-trick at one of her favourite tournaments. She has dominated both Grand Slams played on hard surfaces this year, beating Cheng in both of them (6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2). She has never lost a set to her in three duels and it should be no different on Sunday.
