Katerina Siniakova will enter the pentathlon in Ning-pu, China, with a first-round match against Magda Linette.

The two players are separated by just two positions on the rankings – the 28-year-old Siniakova is ranked 42nd, while the four years older Linette rounds out the top four. According to the odds, the bookmakers are expecting a more or less even match, but the more experienced Pole should have the upper hand.

Linette has been in solid form in recent weeks. She reached the eighth round in Beijing at the beginning of the month and the quarter-finals at the last 1000 in Wuhan. In both cases she was knocked out of the game by the huge paper favourites Mirra Andreeva and Coco Gauff. The native of Poznan, on the other hand, recorded the scalps of two Grand Slam finalists this year, Italy’s Paolini (6:4, 6:0) and world No. 11 Russia’s Kasatkina (6:2, 6:3).

Siniakova has been struggling in singles since the US Open. In Hua Hin, she failed to win her second match, losing twice 3:6 to Argentina’s Podoroska from the position of a big favourite. She lost two games less in Beijing, where she fell short to Ukrainian qualifier Starodubtseva. Last week in Wuhan, she suffered a tough draw that saw her lose in the second round to world number two and later tournament champion Sabalenka of Belarus.

What to bet on:

Linette has had some solid scalps of high-profile players lately, and when she loses, it’s to a big favorite. Siniakova, on the other hand, has a losing record even against lower ranked opponents. Moreover, the Polish player’s rather defensive game does not suit her, she has lost three out of four matches with her in the past. On an almost odds-on basis, a bet on Linette is worth a lot of money.
