Southampton suffered their 12th league defeat overall, losing to Aston Villa in the last round and remain last with just five points. Tottenham also failed to do well, squandering a two-goal lead in the London derby to lose 3:4 at home to Chelsea.

Tottenham have won only two away league games this season (2-1-4), but managed to do so at Manchester United (3-0) and Manchester City (4-0). Although coach Postecoglu recently said that they cannot play as well as they did at City every time, even a slightly lesser performance should be enough for Southampton.

The home side’s situation is not getting any better. Moreover, they have now become only the fourth team in history to take only five points after the opening 15 rounds. It happened to Sheffield United last season, and everyone will remember how that turned out. Saints’ future is not rosy, but no one can deny the fact that the players are fighting for coach Martin. He knows full well that the problem is mainly incompetence in front of the opposition goal.

What to bet on:

Tottenham, who have lost three of their last four away league games, will want to take advantage of the home side’s situation. However, it is not difficult to get all the points on Southampton’s turf, as five of its seven opponents this season have proved (Southampton at home: 1-1-5).
