One of the highlights of the third day of play at Indian Wells will be the second round women’s singles match between Poland’s Iga Swiatek and Danielle Collins of the United States.

The favourite of the match is clear. Shwiatek dominated the tournament the year before last and reached the semi-finals in the Californian desert. In mid-February, the Warsaw native dominated the Doha event. This season, however, the world number one is looking vulnerable. At the Australian Open, she dropped out in the third round against Linda Noskova. Then, at the last tournament in Dubai, she lost in a surprising two sets to Russia’s Kalinskaya.

Collins was not far from the scalp of the star Polish player at the opening Grand Slam. In the deciding set she was already leading 4:1, but then she lost five games in a row and the sensation was over. The 30-year-old American recently declared that she is twisting her last season on the circuit and will be looking to say goodbye to her fans in Indian Wells with a fine performance. In the opener, she outplayed Erika Andreyeva of Russia in two tiebreakers.

What to bet on:

Shwiatek is very likely to advance. But it makes no sense to play a clean one at low odds. A win by the Pole combined with at least eighteen completed games looks much better. Collins can bounce back from their recent duel. She’s taken Kazan Rybakina to three sets this year. This shouldn’t be a debacle.
