Gael Monfils’ progress to the semi-finals of the Mallorca grass tournament is a pleasant surprise. The French showman, who is already 37 years old, hasn’t exactly shone on grass in recent years. Since 2020, he has played only eight matches on this surface, with two wins and six defeats.

In Mallorca, however, he took advantage of a slightly easier draw and knocked out Dominic Thiem, Roberto Carballes Baena and Roberto Bautista. On Friday, however, he will face his toughest opponent yet in Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo.

Tabilo has been very good in Mallorca so far. He did not lose his serve even once against Alexander Shevchenko, and only once in the quarterfinal against Jakub Mensik, turning the second set from 2:4 to 6:4 with relative ease.

What to bet on:

Tabilo hasn’t been a quality grass-court player so far, but he shows that he has worked hard on his serve, which has also helped him to climb to 24th in the ATP rankings. Despite the ageing Monfils, who has been knocked down by health problems in recent years, he will break through to the final.
