The best for last. The Copa América quarter-finals will be a clash of the teams that will combine for 24 South American titles.

Uruguay went through the group like a knife through butter, beating Panama 3-1, Bolivia 5-0 and the USA 1-0, and with nine goals they are the most productive team in the championship. The team plays efficiently and effectively, and the offensive handwriting of Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa is evident. The defence is solid and disciplined, the midfield creative, the forwards able to get into chances and finish them accurately. Uruguay, in short, look better at the moment than Brazil, who they beat 2-0 in a world qualifier in November.

The Canaries are struggling, with frequent coaching changes bringing more chaos than benefit. The fourth coach in less than two years has led the national team since the World Cup in Qatar, and Dorival Júnior was given the confidence after a botched fall qualifying window (4 games, 1 point), but even so the game doesn’t look good, even though the Brazilians haven’t lost yet this year (3-4-0).

They’ve only beaten Paraguay 4-1 in the tournament, drawing 0-0 with a weak Costa Rica as well as 1-1 with Colombia. The problem for the Brazilians is the absence of a creative midfielder, the long injured Neymar, the bearer of offensive ideas. In addition, the quarter-final will be without the suspended Vinícius Júnior, the tournament’s two-goal scorer.

What to bet on:

Uruguay beat Brazil in November for the first time since 2001 and twelve games in, the players have gained confidence and if they knock out the Canaries in the quarter-finals it will no longer be a surprise.
