The World Junior Championships have a final day of play ahead of them, during which medals will be handed out. In the finals, the United States and Finland will face off in a rematch of their regular season group game. The Finns surprisingly won 4:3 in overtime.

The United States is the favourite for the final game, and they will not accept anything other than defending last year’s gold. In the knockout battles, they first beat Switzerland 7:2 in the quarterfinals and then clawed their way to a 4:1 victory over the Czech Republic. Although the score looks clear, it was still only by one goal in the 56th minute and only at the end the favourites managed to pull away from their tenacious opponents.

In the quarter-finals, Finland stood up to Slovakia, winning 5:3. It was the three goals scored that did not bring the Finns a restful sleep, as they somewhat undermined their aura of a well-defended team against weaker opponents. The semi-final against Sweden then offered a huge drama that went into extra time. It was not until the 10th minute that Rautiainen decided Finland’s progress to the final from a power play.

What to bet on:

Finland has already matured against the United States in this tournament. On the other hand, they have had a long and difficult semifinal. The Americans have a quality endgame and overall high productivity, but the Finns can adapt to that and step out of their defensive zone when necessary. Whoever the world champion is, the final will be spiced up with some of those goals.
