Markéta Vondroušová will return to the courts on Tuesday after a month-long break. Last time the Czech tennis player competed in Indian Wells, she had a sovereign entry into the tournament, but withdrew from the tournament before the third round and hurriedly travelled home due to her grandfather’s deteriorating condition.

On Tuesday, Vondrousova will open the clay portion of her season at the prestigious Stuttgart tournament, where she will face Croatia’s Donna Vekic. She last faced her at Wimbledon last year, where she beat her in two sets.

Vekić is also yet to open the clay part of the season. She has played some decent tournaments on concrete, during which she reached the quarterfinals in San Diego, even the semifinals in Linz and the eighth round in Dubai. However, she doesn’t have good memories of Czech tennis players in her career. She can’t play them too well.

What to bet on:

Vondroušová needed some time away from the courts after losing a loved one. But now she’s about to hit the tournament circuit again and has a decent draw for the first round in Stuttgart. She’ll beat Vekic and advance to the eighth round.
